🌀 How Often Should I Get a Massage?

🌿 Personalised Advice - But Your Body Knows Best

One of the most common questions new clients ask me at Indulge Massage Therapy is: "How often should I be getting a massage?"

And honestly, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer - but that’s the beauty of it. Just like every body is different, so is every massage journey.

Whether you're coming in for stress relief, managing muscle pain, or simply carving out time for self-care, the frequency of your massage sessions depends on your goals, your lifestyle, and how your body responds.

Honest advice from a Doncaster therapist,” featuring four illustrated sections with tips from Indulge Massage Therapy: stress relief, chronic tension, desk-related discomfort, and general self-care, each with supportive icons and pastel colour blocks.

✨ 1. If You’re Dealing with Stress, Anxiety or Burnout…

Modern life is full-on. From long commutes to endless screens, your nervous system gets overwhelmed. Regular massage can be a powerful way to press pause and reset.

Recommended frequency:

🗓️ Every 2–4 weeks is ideal to regulate your stress response, reduce cortisol levels and allow your mind and body to relax deeply.

🧘‍♂️ Many of my clients call it their “monthly sanity check” or “me-time escape.” One even says it’s “a reset button I press every 3 weeks.”

💪 2. If You Have Ongoing Aches, Pains or Muscle Tension…

Whether you’re battling postural strain from desk work or dealing with long-term shoulder or back tension, consistency makes a huge difference.

Recommended frequency:

🗓️ Weekly or fortnightly sessions help ease tension, improve mobility and gradually correct muscular imbalances. Once we’ve made progress, we can switch to monthly maintenance.

🔁 It’s like going to the gym - one session helps, but regular sessions deliver real results.

💻 3. If You Work at a Desk All Day…

Poor posture, screen time, and long hours in a seated position can lead to stiff necks, tight shoulders, headaches, and lower back pain - and it affects more people than you'd think.

Recommended frequency:

🗓️ Every 2–3 weeks to manage tension in the upper back, shoulders and neck - particularly if you're noticing recurring pain or headaches.

📉 Massage helps counteract the effects of static posture by improving blood flow, releasing tight muscles, and encouraging better alignment.

🧖‍♂️ 4. If You Just Want to Feel Good Regularly…

Massage doesn’t need a reason. You might just love how it makes you feel - more present, less tense and more you.

Recommended frequency:

🗓️ Once a month is perfect for ongoing wellness - particularly if you're generally healthy, active and proactive with your self-care.

🌿 At Indulge, I often say: “Prevention is better than cure.” A monthly massage might keep those niggles from becoming bigger problems.

🔁 So… What’s Right for You?

If you're unsure how often to book, here’s what I suggest:

  1. ✅ Start with a one-off massage to see how your body responds.

  2. ✅ Book your next session within 2–4 weeks while your muscles are still benefiting.

  3. ✅ Together, we then create a rhythm that suits your lifestyle and goals - whether that’s weekly, monthly or seasonal.

🤝 I’ll always offer honest, personalised advice - not just what fills the diary.

💬 But more important than anything, I always say: listen to your body - it will tell you when it’s ready for your next treatment.

🧾 Don’t Forget - You Might Be Able to Claim It Back

If you're covered by a healthcare scheme like Westfield Health or Bupa, your massage treatments may be reimbursable - as I’m fully insured and registered with the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).

I provide detailed, professional receipts to help make the claim process simple. Several clients say this is the reason they’re able to book regular massages without financial worry.
