Why You Should Cancel Your Massage When You're Feeling Unwell

🧖 Massage Therapy Guidance from Indulge Massage Therapy, Doncaster

🤒 Is It Okay to Have a Massage When You’re Sick?

At Indulge Massage Therapy in Doncaster, I always put your wellbeing first. While massage is a wonderful tool for relaxation and healing, there are times when it's best to postpone your session - especially if you're feeling under the weather.

Massage stimulates your circulation and immune system, which is great when you're healthy - but not when your body is already fighting off illness. Here's why you should consider cancelling and rescheduling if you're unwell:

Infographic titled “Why You Should Cancel Your Massage When You’re Feeling Unwell,” showing five illustrated reasons including rest, infection risk, discomfort, safety concerns, and therapist appreciation. Created by Indulge Massage Therapy in Doncaster to guide clients on when to reschedule.

✅ 1. Your Body Needs Rest, Not Stimulation

Massage increases blood and lymph circulation. While this is beneficial under normal conditions, it can overburden your immune system when you're ill, especially if you have a cold or flu. What your body really needs is rest, hydration, and quiet recovery time.

❌ 2. You Risk Spreading Infection

Massage is a close-contact treatment. If you're contagious, attending an appointment could put your therapist and subsequent clients at risk.

🧴 Did you know? I take hygiene and cleanliness very seriously at Indulge Massage Therapy, but your cooperation is just as essential in maintaining a safe, healthy space.

😓 3. You Won’t Enjoy the Experience

Let’s face it: lying down with a blocked nose, aching body, or scratchy throat is far from relaxing. Massage should be a luxury experience, not an endurance test. You deserve to feel comfortable and benefit fully from the treatment - so it's better to wait until you feel well again.

⚠️ 4. Massage May Be Unsafe with Certain Symptoms

Massage is contraindicated if you’re experiencing:

  • Fever

  • Dizziness or light-headedness

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Skin infections or rashes

These symptoms can signal that your body is not ready for physical manipulation and stimulation.

🙏 5. I Truly Appreciate Your Consideration

As a solo massage therapist in Doncaster, I really value clients who prioritise both their own health and the wellbeing of others. Cancelling due to illness helps me keep my treatment space safe and running smoothly. I’ll always try to rebook you as soon as you’re better.

📝 My Illness & Cancellation Policy

I understand that illness can come on suddenly. While I kindly ask for 24 hours’ notice where possible, your health always comes first. If you're unwell, just let me know as soon as you can. You won’t be penalised for taking care of yourself. See my cancellation policy for more details.

🌿 When You’re Ready to Return…

I'll be here with a warm, peaceful space, ready to help you feel your best. Whether you book a Deep Tissue Massage, Aromatherapy massage, or Hopi Ear Candling, your experience will be far more enjoyable when you're well.
